Holiday budgets usually cover the gifts, the food and the travel. Shipping is the line most people forget, and it is the one that grows fastest when time runs short. A few late packages sent by express service, an oversized box or two, and a surprise surcharge can turn a modest shipping plan into one…
A package you ship before a long weekend can take noticeably longer than the same package shipped a week earlier, even though nothing went wrong. Carrier holidays remove business days from the calendar, pickups and deliveries pause, and the days right after a holiday are often busier than usual. If you are not counting those…
It is a few days before the holiday, and the tracking page for a gift has not changed since last week. Or the expected delivery date has quietly slipped past the day you needed it. Holiday delays are common, because carriers handle far more packages than usual and weather can slow entire regions. The good…
Every holiday season brings the same decision for gifts going to people far away. You can order online and have the retailer ship straight to the recipient, or you can buy the gift, bring it home, wrap it and send it yourself. When a product breaks while it is still under warranty, the manufacturer may ask you to mail it in for repair or replacement. That sounds simple until you realize you need an authorization number, a specific address, proof of purchase and a box that will protect a device that is already damaged. Get any of…

Sometimes they refund you and tell you to keep the item. Sometimes they push you toward an exchange or store credit. Each option has different trade-offs in time, cost…
When you cancel or switch internet, cable or satellite service, the provider usually wants its equipment back: the modem, the router, the cable box, the remote, sometimes the power cords too. Miss the return, send it to the wrong place or lose track of the receipt, and you can be billed for equipment you thought…
